The 15th of February saw the end of a historic edition of the MICAM, — declared Annarita Pilotti President of Assocalzaturifici, in the event’s farewell address —Today, more than ever before, the MICAM confirms itself as a point of reference in the worldwide market of footwear and the most prestigious showcase for re-launching Made in Italy.We realized a dream, by following through not only with a new exhibition project, which is even more glamorous and functional, but by also forging an important synergy with players in fashion, thus allowing us to take a critical step forward towards a new era.

The restyling of the show mostly regarded the Luxury section of the event (Halls 1-3), which was enriched by the creation of three new special areas dedicated to interaction and image. Among them the most important was the Fashion Square, which showcased designer names like Fendi, Ferragamo, Gucci, Prada and Tod’s which, with their “first time” at the MICAM, strived to express their support for this Italian event. Always in the Fashion Square, was the debut of the Emerging Designers’ Area, a new space that the MICAM has destined for emerging talents in international footwear and their collections.

the-micamThe Men’s Square instead inaugurated a special area, presented in the heart of the selection, of the most prestigious men’s footwear brands, while also hosting in its shoe-shaped structure the ‘Barber Shop’, which was set up in collaboration with Proraso, and the Sciuscià area for shining shoes. Finally, the Style Square welcomed visitors to its open bar, while inviting them to visit the International Designer Area located on the fringes of this area, with the collections of International designers.
Enriching the exhibition, which showcased the Fall/Winter 2017-18 collections presented by 1,405 exhibitors, 610 of which were foreign, the MICAM completed its offering with a rich program of fashion shows and seminars dedicated to fashion trends and retail staged by WGSN in the MICAM Square, in Hall 7. micam-3Moreover, for the very first time, the program of seminars, which was once again staged by WGSN, was extended to also include children’s footwear, with a special focus on kids’ fashion trends and the consumer habits of generation “Z” and “Alpha”, in the Ikidsquare area.

Finally, underlining the high glam content at this edition of the MICAM was the “Wonderlust party” held in the Fashion Square, as a special gala evening conducted by Jo Squillo, with special guest Skin, lead singer of Skunk Anansie and famous face from the micam-2XFactor, who proposed a lively DJ set.The same evening also saw the granting of the MICAM Awards:the prestigious awards went to Rosy Biffi, founder of “Biffi Boutiques”, for the best Italian buyer, and to the Spanish company “GB Bravo Group”, for the best foreign buyer.

With its winter season now behind it, the MICAM returns with its next edition from 17 to 20 September 2017, for the presentation of the Spring-Summer 2018 collections, promising rich new contents and trends that will once again reconfirm its role of reference on the international panorama of fashion and high-end footwear.
