The collaboration between adidas and Yohji Yamamoto gave birth to the absolute first application of the revolutionary Digital Light Synthesis technology. The Y-3 RUNNER 4D combines innovation and Japanese craftsmanship, and rests on an inter-sole in a special high performance resin “sculpted” with light and oxygen. Through a revolutionary technological process we use a digital light projection, oxygen permeable optics and programmable liquid resins, to generate resistant high performance polymeric products. The iconic mono-component truss structure is optimized for controlled energy return. The innovative production system makes it possible to turn even the most intricate structures into reality and compensates for the shortcomings found in conventional additive manufacturing methods (i.e. 3D printing): low production rate, poor surface quality, material and colour restrictions.
