The midsole of Futurecraft 4D is conceived as part of the brand’s Futurecraft project, which is aimed at revolutionizing the future of productive techniques through new technologies and collaborations.  It is the product of 17-plus years of running data, brought to functional reality through a pioneering digital footwear component creation process.  Thanks to this process, traditional procedures of prototyping or moulding are no longer necessary, while there is also a departure from 3D printing.  With the aim of creating running shoes specific to the needs of all athletes, Adidas used its archive of running data to design the optimum shape for the midsoles, which are made with Digital Light Synthesis technology.  Thus, the brand is able to precisely address the needs of each athlete in terms of movement, cushioning, stability, and comfort, with one single component.  The exclusive Carbon programmable resin base offers unmatched performance in terms of material resistance and elastomeric reactivity.  Accessory to this new productive approach are the designers, athletic scientists, and engineers of Adidas, who can transform even the most intricate structures into reality, while above all compensating for the limitations typical to 3D printing like low production rhythms, low surface quality, and restrictions on material and colour choices.  Without the limits set by traditional methods, Adidas is accordingly able to offer customers highly innovative products that are guaranteed to satisfy, at an unequalled speed, with the aim of producing more than 100,000 pairs of shoes by the end of 2018.
