The losses caused to Italian retail by robberies and thefts amount to 2.3 billion euro. Fast fashion-clothing, footwear and accessories companies, as well as large-scale retailers, are among the most affected.

furtoThis is what the report “Security in the retail sector in Italy 2016” presented by Crime&Tech, which depends on the Transcrime centre of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, in collaboration with the Laboratorio per la Sicurezza and the support of Checkpoint systems, affirms .

Basically, 1.1% of Italian retail turnover is lost in robberies and thefts; a substantial figure that has to be adjusted to 3.4 billion euro if we consider also the money spent for security systems. Basically, about 60 euro per inhabitant.

Campania, Apulia and Emilia-Romagna are among the most affected regions. Then there are high-risk areas, located between Alessandria and Bologna, Bari and Brindisi, and between Naples and Cosenza. While, as regards the typologies, shoplifting and robberies rank first, followed by internal thefts (carried out by employees) and thefts in the supply chain.

The data presented in the report are based on surveys carried out on a sample of 8,000 shops located across the country, which are equivalent to about 12% of the sector turnover.
