This is the fashion dictate of camp fashion as presented by Susan Sontag in her 1996 “Notes on Camp”: “the deliberate, informed, and sophisticated use of kitsch in art”, and in fashion, we would like to add. From this premise arrives the exhibition dedicated to Camp at the MET in New York, which was inaugurated this past 6 may with a gala and red carpet event that outshone even the evening of the Oscars.

While everyone was trying to identify the most ‘in vogue’ of all the event’s protagonists, we instead made a little foray into the most camp shoes, starting from the legendary Rainbow sandal by Salvatore Ferragamo, to then go on to the inventions of Andrea Pfister and Manolo Blahnik, the butterflies of Sophia Webster and the flames of Prada. We finally topped it off with the excesses of Vivienne Westwood, Giuseppe Zanotti and Alexander McQueen.

These are shoes that have been seen on the feet of only the most over-the-top stars like Lady Gaga, or worn (sometimes with difficulty) by models on the runway. These models can all be taken as an example in inspiring your very own trendy camp look.
