theMICAM presents Twelve Shoes, an exhibition that interprets the shoe as an object of art. An event curated by Daniela Fedi and Lucia Serlenga, with photos by Federico Garibaldi

The art of footwear production (a union of creativity, design and technology) influences the art of photography. theMICAM brings to the stage a new philosophy of life: one pair of shoes is not enough to face all of the day’s commitments with elegance and comfort. From 3 to 26 September, twelve poster-sized photographs taken by the photographer Federico Garibaldi will be on display at the Gallery of Passi Perduti in the Palazzo dei Giureconsulti (Piazza dei Mercanti 2, Milan). The one-off expressive images measuring 2.60 x 1.30 m artistically show the multitasking aspect of the twelve pairs of shoes needed for the different situations that may arise during the day. From here comes the trend of a “spare” pair of ballerina pumps kept in a woman’s bag, but also the habit from the US and now known around the world of the so-called “office shoes”, i.e. a pair of court shoes, pumps or kitten shoes to be hidden in the bottom drawer of the desk. Twelve symbols-shoes among the new proposals presented at the Fair by more than 1450 exhibitors at theMICAM – September 2016. The catalogue also contains anecdotes, trivia, practical advice and information on what is universally acknowledged as the most loved and celebrated item in a woman’s wardrobe, a fun “Scarpario” or shoe diary for women, as well as a series of aphorisms on shoes: from Karl Kraus to Carrie Bradshaw. Annarita Pilotti, President of Assocalzaturifici:

«This exhibit – created with the support of ITA (Italian Trade Agency) and the Ministry of Economic Development – accompanies the public in discovery of the physical and sensory dimension, as well as the sentimental and intellectual nature that revolves around each shoe, releasing and unveiling its incredible cultural value»
