It is no coincidence that Sonia Iacoponi and Davide Brivio chose 22 April – World Earth Day – for the market launch of their new UNEAK ® brand, specialised in sustainable footwear with a high fashion content and expression of Italian quality, to be precise of the Marche region. The launch campaign is scheduled to start on 17 June on Kickstarter, with the launch of the Juarez sneaker, the name chosen to recall the origins of the material that covers it and which, in fact, comes from Mexico: the upper is, in fact, made of a synthetic leather effect material obtained from industrial cactus waste and patented by the Mexican company Desserto®. The Juarez sneaker also features a bamboo fibre lining, recycled cotton laces, a natural rubber sole and logos made with a particular technology that allows application at lower temperatures compared to traditional transfers, reducing waste due to material carving. The goal is also to use internal Biorel tips and counters certified biodegradable EN13432 and ASTM D6400. The strategic plan of UNEAK ® also provides for the minimisation of inventories in the warehouse, which will be progressively calibrated to the requirements of the customers, aiming to achieve “zero waste”. Finally, process technicians are working hard to ensure that footwear, at the end of its life, can be disassembled and then recycled or that many components can be disposed of correctly..
