The 97th edition of Pitti Uomo, held at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence from 7 to 10 January, was scheduled too close to the holidays surrounding Christmas/New Year’s and to the beginning of the winter sales period, which resulted in fewer visitors from an Italian market already in difficulty. The final turnout was 21,400 buyers of which 8,300 were from abroad: among them the most influential boutiques, leading department stores, and high-end e-commerce platforms. An exceptional public that lent dynamism and energy to the fair that saw over 1200 brands present their collections. At the same time, the value of Pitti Uomo goes beyond numbers and must be assessed “on the basis of broader and more enduring criteria: – comments Raffaello Napoleone, CEO of Pitti Immagine – new export opportunities for the more dynamic brands, the impact of communication, the strategic guide of the promotional policies of an entire sector, the diffusion of innovation, the face-to-face debate betwe
en the various segments of the production chain and between buyers and companies, the importance of the cultural element…These are the factors that dictate the leadership of this fair and its role as a point of reference for the international fashion system, a reference that remains such during both calm and stormy weather”.
Among the markets present at Pitti Uomo, first in the classification was Germany, followed by Japan, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Spain, Turkey, France, Switzerland, Belgium, the United States, Russia, South Korea, China, Austria, Greece, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, and China-Hong Kong.
At the Fortezza da Basso, next to the collections of classic, informal, and avant-garde apparel were also shoes, the accessory essential to every gentleman’s wardrobe. Among the trends of the show were a classic style renewed in its shapes and colours and the prevalence of the boot proposed in versions from the Beatle to the mountain boot, passing through military and Brit influences. The sneaker’s role was likewise important in both streetwear and activewear, expressed with a look perfectly balanced between aesthetic details and performance, while often featuring large and chunky outsoles.
