Under the spotlight at MOMAD was footwear, apparel and accessories, in addition to small leather goods, luggage, eyewear, etc.… Altogether, the 11 sectors represented saw a good turnout by the public. We spoke of this with Julia Gonzàlez, director of the event in charge of all the shows connected to the world of fashion organised by IFEMA: “We chose to globalize MOMAD. Up until yesterday, we had two distinct and separate fairs: one for apparel and accessories and the other footwear. Starting from this edition, we focused on a fair that presents the entire fashion industry, or rather an event that is attractive at 360°. Spanish and international buyers prefer to have a complete event available for finalising their range of purchases. In fact, an increasingly high number of stores offer the entire fashion range: from apparel to bags, footwear, etc.….”

In the near future, could MOMAD possibly be of interest also to non-Spanish manufacturers like – for example – Portuguese, French, or Italians?

“Most certainly – confirms Gonzalez-. We already have a good international turnout, but of course, we will do our best to help it grow. Today, MOMAD is the only genuinely important event for the entire Iberian Peninsula and, for this reason, we have many exhibitors and visitors who come from Portugal. Additionally, we invite many foreign buyers from all over the world: from Europe all the way to Latin America. Our aim is to see this event arrive at representing a good point of reference for all European countries, including especially those in Southern Europe”.

Which initiatives do you feel are most appropriate for attracting a greater number of footwear exhibitors, since we are in Spain where the footwear manufacturing industry has a decidedly important role?

“We believe that the segment of footwear deserves special attention. The first step was that of bringing together in a single event the various fashion sectors, where – obviously footwear is the absolute protagonist. For the next editions, we are thinking of making specific initiatives available to the footwear segment like design contests and fashion shows”.

The next edition of MOMAD will be held from 3 to 5 September 2020.
