According to its values, JBS Couros, in collaboration with Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, FotoShoe 30 Magazine and Arsutoria School has decided to promote the Design Kind Leather initiative, a competition for creative professionals in the fashion world.
The goal is to arrange an annual appointment with stylists and manufacturers of footwear and bags, dedicated to the main values of Kind Leather: sustainability, reuse of materials and better resource management.

the CONTEST

To participate, you are required to submit a creative project, which includes the design and development of a shoe or bag model (or even both) that reflects the core values of the Kind Leather product.

here are the three FINALISTS and their PROJECTS

The Design Kind Leather Contest has recently entered its most technical phase: the creation of prototypes. A shoe and/or bag model has been chosen for each designer, which will take shape thanks to the experience of the Arsutoria School professionals. The prototypes will then be exhibited at the next edition of Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags (11-14 June 2022), which will also be an occasion to announce the overall winner.

Remember to vote for the project that you think best interpreted Kind Leather’s core values. You can win a subscription to EdizioniAF editorial products!

Vincenzo Carpentieri

Italy

Graduated in 2008 in Industrial Design from IED Milan, he immediately joined the industrial design team of the IED Research Center (CrIed). His professional experience ranges from sole design to fashion/outdoor sneakers. In 2014 he became freelance, and currently works as a consultant collaborating with brands such as Volta, Quicksilver, Tradeport, Kodiak and Merrell, Dickies.

Rocky Waves

The Rocky Waves project stems from the transposition of shapes created by natural elements that stylistically recall sustainability as an ethical and aesthetic factor: the seams evoke the stratification of rocky sediments, the soft shapes and shades used recall the movement of the waves of the sea and the conformation of smooth rocks eroded by atmospheric agents. The common thread is the use of sustainable leather and natural and recycled crepe that increase technical performance and protect accessories made with Kind Leather hides.

Tommy Ambiyo Tedji

Indonesia

Accessories designer and founder of the Indonesian brand Byo. An industrial designer by training, he has been developing modular fabric bags since 2014. Science-fiction imagery and traditional craftsmanship make his style unique, blending and sublimating futuristic flair and refined handmade geometries. Following the development of 9 collections of hand-designed and hand-woven bags, he began using his experience and knowledge of modular systems to develop a more sustainable and circular production model

Byo Logic

This project skilfully interprets the values of sustainability: “reuse, reduce, recycle”. The “upcycle” idea of applying origami philosophy to quality leather processing waste gives life to a completely original reinterpretation of classic models and traditional bag constructions.

Rosaria Torquati

Italy

Rosaria Torquati is a freelance designer who has been working for the footwear industry since 1990. Her professional training is due to specialized courses, a natural creative talent and good customer facing skills. Various activities inherent to design, art and craftsmanship, arts that she considers of equal importance, are part of her career path. Her work is carried out as a creative support service to design studios and manufacturers. His appearances at purely artistic events are also of interest.

CREAtive REcovery

This project perfectly interprets one of the key principles of JBS Kind Leather: the reuse of materials. The basic idea is to avoid, as much as possible, the excess of processing waste when cutting leather. The design of her models was born from the idea of “recovering empty spaces”, that is the desire to reuse waste scraps of the upper as decorative and style elements of the shoe with minimum waste of materials and resources.
