Despite macroeconomic uncertainties, the traditional leather goods fair in Offenbach confirmed its role as a compass for the entire leather goods and travel sector, with commercial and industrial operators working together on innovative concepts in a decidedly positive atmosphere. As Arnd Hinrich Kappe, CEO of Messe Offenbach, pointed out, ILM is now perceived as the “living room of the leather goods industry”, a place where the convivial atmosphere and positive vibes have made it possible to tackle complex issues with an unprecedented spirit of collaboration. The aura of glamour was guaranteed by the presence of television and fashion icon Frauke Ludowig, who emphasised the timeless appeal of quality accessories.
The central theme of the expert panels was the impact of Artificial Intelligence and digital tools on the supply chain. In the Travel segment, innovation dominated the scene: the new luggage collections are no longer simple containers, but integrated systems. Visitors were able to test luggage equipped with GPS and Bluetooth tracking that can be managed via smartphone and biometric locks with fingerprint sensors, raising security to digital standards.
On the style front, the guidelines for the AW 2026/27 season see the return of textured materials such as faux fur and crocodile effect, with brown as the main colour, available in natural shades combined with fresh, contrasting colours for a contemporary look. There is also a strong focus on “ornamental” accessories: charms and foulards become essential for personalising bags.
In Offenbach, particular attention was paid to the luggage and school supplies segments. Through Trend Lectures, retailers gathered ideas on how to generate excitement in stores, transforming the physical shop into a place of entertainment and expertise.
