A driving force of the Mexican footwear and leather goods industry, SAPICA celebrated the important milestone of 50 years of activity on 15 August. More than 2,200 national and international buyers attended the event, who came to see the new collections and innovations of the more than 380 exhibitors present, representing 90% of the Mexican footwear industry’s offer. The event was a very important occasion for a sector, such as the Mexican leather and footwear industry, that is facing a difficult period: in the first quarter of 2024, the footwear sector’s Gross Domestic Product decreased by -18.5% and between May 2023 and May 2024, 12,313 jobs were lost (8,046 jobs lost in Guanajuato alone).

SAPICA proposed itself as an event to enhance the value of Made in Mexico, which is the expression of a footwear industry rich in tradition and creativity, and which has repeatedly shown in the past that it can overcome obstacles and changes such as the current one.
