Already presented during Milan Fashion Week, the Xi’an International Fashion Town that was founded from the partnership between the Xi’an International Community, Tande Real Estate and Chic Group, was the protagonist of a memorandum of understanding signed during the China-Italy Forum this past 18 March.
The signers of the memorandum, which included from one end the Italy-China Foundation, and from the other end, the Xi’an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone, is explained by Alberto Bombassei, President of the Italian foundation as follows: “Our aim is to help Italian companies arrive in China, while also starting up new activities that allow Italians and Chinese to work in close contact with one another in a mutually satisfying partnership and with important results, as is already common today in many realities. For years, China was perceived as a threat. Today, China is an opportunity and initiatives like this one are proof of it”.
The Xi’an International Fashion Town is rising up on the outskirts of one of the oldest cities in China with an estimated 13 million inhabitants. In the past, this city was the start of the ancient Silk Road route. Today, it is the fulcrum of the New Silk Road, as well as a point of entry onto the great market of North-Eastern China. The complex extends across 3.1 km² and will be part of the new Xi’an International Community district, with a total area of 18.72 square kilometres. To create the infrastructures need for its launching, the Peking Government has set aside 1.2 billion euros.
The new Fashion Town will give life to a win-win collaboration between China and Italy, creating an “eco-system where it is possible to contribute to the growth and promotion of designers, retail brands, and companies from the fashion-tech sector”. Thus, for many companies – either emerging or established – which represent the excellence of Made in Italy in the field of fashion, lifestyle, and technological innovation, new scenarios for development are opening up. The project will provide concrete and strategic support for entering the Chinese market, including access to online and offline channels, assistance to businesses that are starting up, support in receiving financing, and other related activities. Among the benefits reserved for the companies selected for the platform, will be dedicated areas of visibility, intercultural marketing mentorship, and access to a distribution network for their products.
