Nicole McLaughlin is a truly unusual talent. Her shoes are constructed with recovered materials, and so far, there’s nothing new. What makes her truly unique is her playful and ironic rereading of used materials, which includes the logos of famous brands, together with the naïve, round, and comfy shapes of her shoes.

This is how she designed the shoe constructed with tennis balls, the one made from badminton shuttlecocks, the sandal with straps from Nikon cameras, the fleece shoe with Patagonia logo, and the slipper with Levi’s labels… All the materials used by Nicole in her creative process are second-hand or discards.

For her, not only the material, but also the logo becomes an integral part of the project: a tribute to brands she is fond of and which, thanks to her talented eye, take on a new meaning.

On Depop, it’s possible to see the video of how her creations are made, where the concept of upcycling is raised up to a new level.
