A unique story closely tied into the world of footwear that the September 2018 edition of MICAM wanted to host, with a sneak preview presented at the MICAM inaugural evening “Envy is in the heel”, which included the live participation of actors from the musical in the Fashion Square. Inspired by a true story, Kinky Boots tells the tale of a young footwear producer, who through a collection that is genuinely ‘alternative’ finds the right way to relaunch his family’s company that has fallen on hard times. With music by Cyndi Lauper and the Italian direction of Claudio Insegno, the show presents the strange friendship between young Charlie Price and the drag queen Lola, whose musical shows become the inspiration for the design of a collection of sensual boots for women, which are also able to bear the weight of a man in drag. Thanks to this collection, Charlie is able to realise his dream of making his debut in Milan at the fair dedicated to footwear. The desire for redemption, the courage to be daring, friendship, and openness to that which is different are just some of the themes that this light-hearted musical and winner of six Tony Awards presents to its viewers.
