The new trends of sustainable fashion at the summer edition of the Ethical Show and Green Showroom in Berlin

It was a great success in terms of number of visitors and presence of new brands at the June 2016 edition of the Ethical Fashion Show and GreenShowroom: the clothing and accessory trends for the season were presented in various expressions of eco-sustainability. The two events are organized by Messe Frankfurt in the Postbahnhof, the restored former train station in the Friedrichshain-Ostbahnhof area.

Last year’s choice of merging the two green fashion exhibitions under the same roof has once again proved to be a winner. The increase in brands that participated in this off-site event of the Berlin Fashion Week is proof of this: two spacious sold-out floors, with 133 brands at the Ethical Fashion Show (casual and streetwear, clothing, shoes and bags) and 35 at GreenShowroom (high-end, design and accessories) in a dynamic and stimulating atmosphere.

Buyers and operators of the sector focused greatly on the variety of proposals characterized by high quality and an international style among brands already strong on the “eco” market and emerging designers. “I was able to admire not only high-quality, design- oriented fashion products, but also products that are attractive in terms of price. All good starting points for integrating eco-fashion on the shop floor,” said Tobias Kastner, a buyer of Frey in Cham.

The panorama was completed by the presentation of eco-fashion by catwalks and conferences. The two fairs are among the most important sustainability events in Europe: born and raised in response to the increasing attention placed by consumers on the clothes and shoes they buy, they are a large showcase for the choice of products and brands that bear witness to an ethical behaviour throughout the production chain. As stated by Olaf Schmidt, Vice President of the Textiles & Textile Technologies segment at Messe Frankfurt: “The fashion world now understands the importance of sustainability as a dominant theme and takes our trade fairs as a fixed element of Berlin Fashion Week. The eco- fashion proposals seen at our fairs are recognized for their uniqueness and specificity.” As usual, Ethical Fashion Show and Greenshowroom were held at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week of Berlin at the same time as the Premium, Panorama, Show & Order, Seek and Bright fairs.

The next editions, always in conjunction with the Fashion Week, will be held on 17-19 January 2017.
