The iconic Twins concept celebrates fifty seasons of creativity, colour, irony, optimism, fun and innovation with a limited edition designed by Bernhard Willhelm

Where is it written and who said that a pair of shoes must necessarily be symmetrical, that the right must be the same as the left? From this simple, but not obvious question, comes the story of Twins. We are on the small island of Majorca, Spain, and the year is 1988.

Camper is already known as an unconventional brand, a bearer of special values and a particular and revolutionary way of thinking, that manufactures and sells shoes. The idea to break the traditional symmetry of a pair of shoes was sensational and allowed the Majorcan brand to tell a new story. This is how the company’s founder Lorenzo Fluxà remembers the event:

The idea of Twins was conceived with the feet, not with the head. It was a long time before anyone had the idea to put their ear to the foot and listen to its feelings, its preferences and its aesthetic tastes

Season after season the brand continues to come up with incredibly original and different models: one shoe with a rounded toe and one with a square toe, one that laces up at the front, the other at the back; buttons versus zips, fun messages, opposing graphics, just to name a few. The Twins shoes were hugely successful and became the symbol of the brand when it opened its first stores abroad in 1992 (Paris, London, Milan) and when, in 2007, it launched the first children’s line – the playful concept was perfect for them: flowers, animals, fruit and designs by Javier Mariscal.

Over the years, many artists such as Mirò, Pep Roselló, Susana Muñiz, Juan Gatti, Anthon Beek, Swash, Doshi Levien and the Japanese Mint Design have been inspired by Twins.   To celebrate this important anniversary, Camper has turned to the unpredictable “rebel” Bernhard Willhelm, who created limited edition shoes with bold stripes. Following the motto “chaos is beautiful”, the designer created a casual chic derby for men and a cowboy boot for women, both with leather outsoles and uppers.
